Tree-Ring Curator Works to Manage Massive Research Collection

Tucked away beneath the bleachers at Arizona Stadium, in a dark corridor unknown to most football game-goers, lies a rather unexpected collection – a collection of wood that's been accumulating for more than a century.

From large, disc-shaped slices to skinny pencil-shaped samples, the storage area is packed full of tree-ring specimens, part of a massive research collection held by the University of Arizona's Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research.

UA Mechanic-Turned-Actor Aids Son's Film Career

John Pulley has been working at the University of Arizona for more than two decades. But most people are more likely to see him on a movie screen than on campus.

In fact, if you were at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah a couple of years ago, you could have seen him rubbing elbows with other members of the film community at Robert Redford's annual movie festival.

Not that he ever aspired to be an actor.

Favorite part about working at the UA
"The diversity of my job and the diversity, too, of the University. ... The diversity in my job in the fact that it's not just teaching, it's not just administration.
Sponsored Projects Employees Honored With Ringing of USS Arizona Bell

The bell of the USS Arizona was rung today to honor staff members in The University of Arizona's Sponsored Projects Services.

The bell – which is rung only on significant occasions in the life of the UA – is tolled at the Student Union Memorial Center on the third Wednesday of each month during the academic year to recognize faculty, staff, students and alumni for achievements that bring prestige and recognition to themselves and the University.
