On Saturday, July 11th beginning at 6:00 p.m. through Sunday, July 12th ending at 6:00 p.m., UITS has scheduled major infrastructure upgrades and network changes which are necessary to continue support of the MOSAIC Project. Within this 24 hour window several core services will not be available. The following detailed schedule provides specific timelines and which services will be impacted.

The UA Libraries Special Collections welcomes "Arctic Spirit: Inuit Art from the Albrecht Collection," a traveling exhibit of the Canadian Inuit’s rich artistic history, June 30-Aug. 28. Chosen from a Heard Museum collection donated by UA alumnus Dr. Daniel Albrecht, the sculptures, textiles and graphics offers a rare opportunity to view Inuit artwork. The Inuits, or Eskimos, are a society of natives who live mainly in Siberia, Alaska, Greenland and the Canadian Arctic. read more »
This summer, all UA departments are being asked to conduct an information security risk assessment. Risk assessment is a process for identifying, assessing and determining ways to mitigate risks to information and information systems. The risk assessment will help departments select appropriate, cost-effective strategies for securing information assets. read more »

Parking & Transportation Services is pleased to announce that the Olive Tunnel is open to bicyclists once again. In addition to the underpass providing easy access to pedestrians, the Olive Tunnel will again allow bicycle traffic under Speedway. The Olive Tunnel is adjacent to the Park Avenue Garage and McClelland Hall on the north side of Speedway, and the Museum of Art and Architecture Building to the south of Speedway. read more »
In a surprise presentation, Marc Johnston was honored with a University of Arizona Asian American Faculty, Staff and Alumni award.
Johnston, director of The University of Arizona's Asian Pacific American Student Affairs, received the UA organization's Outstanding Staff Award.
The award is typically handed out during the UA organization's annual awards and scholarship celebration, which will be held Nov. 14 this year. read more »

Several new information security standards, procedures and guidelines will become effective on July 1, 2009. This guidance was developed pursuant to the Board of Regents' IT security policy and the recommendations of the Arizona Auditor General's Office in connection with an IT Security Performance Audit. UITS will present a series of open sessions to discuss Google Apps and its implications as the UITS-provided email and calendaring system at The University of Arizona. The UA Arizona Center on Aging (Co-Directors, Janko Nikolich, MD, PhD and Mindy J. Fain, MD) awarded over $100,000 of Biology of Aging (BAR) research pilot grants, launching a new and exciting research initiative to address the basic biology of aging and its impact upon the clinical care and well-being of older Americans. This five-year, $100,000/year pilot grant program is designed to encourage new and seasoned investigators to apply their expertise to key research questions in aging; to promote collaborative, multidisciplinary research by attracting UA investigators from different colleges and departments; to enable researchers to collect sufficient preliminary data in order to pursue additional major support through other funding mechanisms ; to allow exploration of innovative and creative directions; and to enhance the reputation of UA in aging research. read more »

Most people in Arizona are aware of the presence since 2003 of West Nile Virus (WNV) in the mosquito population in our state. Arizona will continue to see human cases of this viral infection each season now that WNV is endemic in our state.
