The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is pleased to announce Professor Richard N. Zare, Marguerite Blake Wilbur Professor in Natural Science at Stanford University, will be presenting two lectures. Dr. Zare has won many prestigious National awards in his field, including the Priestly Medal from the Amercian Chemical Society, Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring, the Wolf Prize and the National Medal of Science. read more »
June marks the 10th anniversary of the end of the US/NATO war against Serbia and in the decade since then, conventional wisdom is that such militarized humanitarian intervention is often necessary and successful.
In his new book, "First Do No Harm: Humanitarian Intervention and the Destruction of Yugoslavia," David N. Gibbs argues that not only is humanitarian intervention not very successful in ending ethnic strife, but that our intervention in Yugoslavia contributed to the initial breakup of the country, and then helped spread the violence and destruction. read more »
Parking & Transportation Services is pleased to announce the start of a new alternative transportation program on the campus of The University of Arizona. The Hertz global car sharing club, has signed its agreement with the UA and will begin operations in mid-August, 2009. Car Sharing will be offered to University of Arizona students and employees as an economical, convenient and socially conscious alternative to car ownership. read more »

Hearing loss impacts many aspects of life - not only for the affected individuals with the impairment but also their families and associates. Individuals and their families are often left to cope with these demanding communication situations without support. Our classes inform participants and their partners about hearing, hearing loss and provide simple strategies that can make communication easier. The overall goal is to improve quality of life by maximizing communication and minimizing the effects of the hearing loss. read more »
Dr. Daniel Albrecht visits the UA Libraries Aug. 21, from 2 p.m. 3:30 p.m. to talk about "Arctic Spirit: Inuit Art from the Albrecht Collection," a traveling exhibit from the Heard Museum, on display in Special Collections this summer. The exhibit was created from the more than 1,000 items that Dr. Albrecht, a UA alumnus, donated to the Heard from his personal collection of Inuit art. High school and adult singers are invited to join the University
Community Chorus this fall. An audition is not required for membership in the chorus, however music-reading experience is helpful.
The chorus is open to new members at this time and pre-registration is encouraged. A $50 registration fee is due at the time of registration. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in room 146 of the UA School of Music. The first rehearsal is Tuesday, August 25 and members are asked to arrive at 6:15 p.m. for organizational purposes. read more »

In light of the recent retirement of Dick Eribes, Assistant Vice President for Campus & Facilities Planning, the departments of Campus & Facilities Planning and Facilities Design & Construction are being combined into the Department of Planning, Design & Construction. The staff of each of these departments has successfully supported the mission of the University by providing efficient, cost effective and high quality facilities. The University of Arizona Athletics Department will host a public recognition ceremony celebrating the career of coach Lute Olson on August 8, 2009.

In response to suggestions received by our office, Human Resources will be sending an email message directly to individuals on an academic pay schedule reminding them that the academic contract dates for 2009-2010 will be August 17, 2009 through May 23, 2010. (A copy of the email can be viewed below).
Because August 17, 2009 falls in the middle of a scheduled pay period, the first paycheck of the academic year will be issued on August 28 and will represent one week of pay. read more »
With the start of Fall semester 2009, UA NetIDs will become "permanent."
Currently, NetIDs expire when a NetID account holder has not had an active affiliation with the University for 18 months. However, NetIDs are increasingly used as identifiers for applications, both internal and external to the University, that have the need to grant access privileges spanning longer periods of time - often permanently. In order for the UA NetID to remain viable in today's IT landscape, it must be persistent. read more »

We will present resources and services provided by the Libraries. We can provide handouts for orientation sessions or new student packets instead of presentation by a librarian if you prefer.
