Jim Himelic Memorial Golf Classic

Since it began in 2001, the annual Jim Himelic Memorial Golf Classic, Dinner, Auctions and Dancing has raised $492,000 to benefit amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) research at The University of Arizona College of Medicine. This year’s event will be held Friday, May 2, at the Omni National Golf Resort and Spa, 2727 W. Club Drive.

Preview of 'Video Slam 2008' Films

The Program in Medical Humanities at The University of Arizona College of Medicine will preview eight short films made by second-year UA medical students for Video Slam 2008, Thursday, April 24 from 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m., in UA College of Medicine Room 2117.

The Video Slam Project, also known as "Patients as Teachers, Medical Students as Filmmakers: Video Project," features films created by the medical students about the lives of individuals coping with chronic illness. The seven-minute films are designed to be shown back-to-back for maximum impact.  read more »

UA School of Theatre Arts Presents Annual One Act Play Festival

The UA School of Theatre Arts will hold its annual One Act Play Festival April 29-May 3 at 8 p.m. and May 3 at 2 p.m. The performances will be held in the Directing Studio of the UA Drama Building, Room 116, located near the southeast corner of Park Avenue and Speedway Boulevard.

Tickets are $4 for each block of plays. For more information, contact the Fine Arts Box Office at 621-1162.

"The First Saturday in May"

On April 28, the Race Track Industry Program at The University of Arizona will host a special one-night screening of filmmakers Brad and John Hennegan's riveting Kentucky Derby documentary, "The First Saturday in May."

This award-winning documentary chronicles the journey of a diverse cast of six hard-working trainers and their jockeys in pursuit of horse racing's Holy Grail - the Kentucky Derby, "the greatest two minutes in sports."  read more »

Two-Way Traffic Conversion on Sixth Ave. and Stone Ave.

The City of Tucson Department of Transportation would like to notify you that Sixth Avenue and Stone Avenue, between 18th Street and Broadway, will be converted to handle both northbound and southbound traffic beginning at 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 26. During the upcoming weeks, you will continue to see work on utility adjustments, installation of poles and signals, and temporary and permanent roadway striping to prepare for the transition of Sixth Avenue and Stone Avenue to two-way traffic.  read more »

"The Day My God Died"

Children are the commodity consumed by the voracious and sophisticated international sex trade. This film presents the stories of young girls who describe the day they were sold into sexual servitude as "the day my God died." We see actual footage from the brothels of Bombay, where girls are tricked, drugged, threatened, beaten and constantly raped. The film also introduces us to nonprofit organizations that rescue and care for former sex slaves.  read more »

21st Annual Lute Olson Celebrity Auction and Golf Tournament
